the P4 agreement

The company’s name P4 ASESORES LTDA. (P4) or “P4” reflects our aim to promote trade and business relations between New Zealand, Chile, Singapore and Brunei in the wake of the recently signed Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership (SEP) between the same parties, also known as the “P4 Agreement”.

The P4 Agreement is a multilateral free trade agreement that liberalizes and facilitates trade in goods and services, improves the business environment and promotes cooperation on a broad range of economic areas of mutual interest to the four nations.

Subject to completion of each party's respective domestic processes, the P4 Agreement (together with the accompanying agreements on labour and environment) is expected to come into force during 2006.
The aim of the Agreement is to eliminate 90 percent of all tariffs between member countries from 2006 and reduce all trade tariffs to zero by 2015.

The P4 Agreement is a comprehensive agreement covering all the main elements of a free trade agreement, including trade in goods, rules of origin, trade remedies, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, trade in services, intellectual property, government procurement and competition policy.

Of paramount importance, the P4 Agreement establishes strategic linkages across the Pacific, joining Latin America, South East Asia and New Zealand. All parties are relatively small countries and are members of the APEC group of nations.

The Agreement will bring a new level of political and economic engagement between New Zealand and Chile, raising New Zealand’s profile in Latin America and paving the way for New Zealand businesses to use Chile as a trampoline into Latin America.
